Mataroa Gin features 12 botanicals from around the Mediterranean, including chamomile from Cyprus, orris root from Italy and orange peel from Spain.
The gin is distilled at Melissandi Distillery in Greece, established in 1924 and one of the oldest distilleries in the country.
The name is inspired by the ship Mataroa which made two important journeys across the Mediterranean in 1945 – one from Marseilles to Haifa with 173 rescued Hebrew refugee children, and the second with students fleeing political prosecutions.
